High altitude & cloud-free camping in mid-August?

IMO, that's exactly what Bend needs more of: Tipsy nerds in beer helmets scampering about in the darkness, dodging asteroid strikes.

I've been in the area many times in August and always found the night sky dry as a bone and startlingly crisp. Only issue for me was that annoying white stripe down the center, which pretty much ruined any id- or tid-watching for me.
