High altitude & cloud-free camping in mid-August?

Green and Gary, I was commenting on the mountainside in the photo -- check out those layers -- much more like the Rockies than most of the stuff we see out West. And the layers are flat -- not warped or tilted, like the Rockies.

I sometimes forget that not everyone is fascinated by rocks. My poor kids suffered for years as we would drive along, and my endless monologue about the geology bored them to tears. Remember that this was in the days before on-board DVD, so there was no escape for them.
