I sometimes forget that not everyone is fascinated by rocks. My poor kids suffered for years as we would drive along, and my endless monologue about the geology bored them to tears. Remember that this was in the days before on-board DVD, so there was no escape for them.
The Steen Mountains are at the northern end of the Basin and Range. You can find similar topography all throughout NV. If you head there, read this before you go so you can really bore your kids! ;)
