Highway 101 No. Calif??

Hi folks,
Full timers thinking of heading up 101 north of San Fran to Astoria Or. We are 38.5 ft plus a 20ft enclosed trailer. I have heard there may be length restrictions but the Cal Trans website offers little for MHs.

Any help on campsites that we get our 63ft length into would also helpful
Plan on hitting the bottom of the 101 N of SF late next week.

As always thanks to all this site is priceless

  • You absolutely don't want to take your 38' MH and 20' trailer on Hwy 1. You'll never make the turns!

Hwy 101 is the road to take. There are plenty of RV parks. Stop and take your vehicle (if that's what you're hauling in the trailer) for siteseeing on Hwy 1. You'll enjoy it MUCH more!
  • We're going to be passing through the Bodega Bay area. Did you see any areas to pull over and get a night's rest anywhere or is it posted "no overnight parking" everywhere?

    Thanks,

    Rex
  • As others have indicated, 1 out of Leggett is to be avoided. As is 1 just north of SF. We generally access it around Bodega Bay & exit on 20 at Fort Bragg. 101 is fine.
  • We have stayed at Klamath River RV park full hookups. You will not have problems with the length of your rig at this campground We also like Humboldt Redwoods and Prairie Creek Redwoods no hookups in neither one of them. Check California State parks and private campgrounds for more information
  • Once you reach Eureka you can go along the coast all the way up through Oregon and Washington. The 1 and 101 mesh all along the way. But do take the 101 up through California, stopping at Willets or Benbow and making day trips to the coast. JMHO

Yep. Not a fun ride with a large RV. Best to take 101 and day trip over from there. Nice parks in and around Humboldt Redwoods
