Hill Country Texas State Parks

We went to the Hill Country last spring to see the wildflowers and stayed at Pedernales State Park. We are planning to go to the area again in late October and would like recommendations from folks who have stayed in that area.

Love hearing from our camping cohorts. Thank you.
  • We like Kerrville Schreiner Park. Formerly a state park now owned by the city. Very large park (500+ acres) with relatively few RV sites. Split in two sections by the highway; river side - along the Guadalupe River, and the hill side - much larger side with lots of hiking/biking trails. Deer often come grazing thru the sites.
    We prefer the hill side.
  • We love Inks Lake State Park. Some sites are right on the lake while others are a little secluded. Wildlife is abundant, especially deer. I believe there is a regulation against feeding them, but they used to come eat corn out of your hand. Austin is about an hour away.
  • Nothing bad about Blanco State park on the edge of Blanco TX snd on the river.

Went there 2 winters ago and found the hill country very interesting. We went to the Sonora Caverns (caves) and it was nice. They had a CG right there which we stayed at.
  • If you want FHU, then Bastrop State Park is a good site as well.
