The last of my "roots" left homestead for good 3 years ago, like me, they could not be happier.
Too bad, it was pretty fun as a kid, a long time ago.

    Sorry about the spelling !

Spelling along with math, English history, geography chemistry, and physics were not my best subjects. If I had my way, I would have bypassed school.

  • I believe the Miccosukee Resort Casino allows boondocking in their parking lot. Contact them to double check if that is along your route.
  • Thanks for the replys; I will be coming from Port Charlotte, how does Gator park c.g. fit in on that route?
  • We winter in the Keys, and there is no way I would look for a freebie in Homestead.
Bite the bullet and stay In Miami Everglades Campground.
It is right off Chrome Ave, and is a great place.

There are a couple of National Forest Campgrounds on the Tamiami Trail, but they are first come first served

  • We stopped at Wally World last March on our way into The Keys for a final stock up and Security was on us before we even got out of the truck. We explained that we were shopping and would be gone within the hour. When we came out of the store the Security wasn't far from where we parked....almost like he was waiting for us.

First off, Homestead is probably not the best town to 'boon-dock' ... lots of crime in that town.

  • I just did that trip in July... Did not look for Walmarts.. I stayed at a KOA in Davies.. It was just outside Miami and it took me about 30 minutes from there to the blue barriers..(end of mainland)

Everglades has some great camping, and it's not that far off the route heading to Keys. You might drop into the park, the first CG is fairly near the entrance, and is worth the effort. If you do that, don't miss Royal Palm, a short nature walk about four or five miles from the campground and the entrance.

Park is about twenty-thirty minutes or so from the highway... worth an extra day to see Royal Palm too.
