honda vs yamaha generator

On my old MH the 2400 would start my 13.5 AC. I still have the 2400 but old MH home is gone. I LOVE my 2400. PERIOD.

Same debate as which truck is better, GM,Ford, or Dodge.
Bought a Yamaha 2800 watt years ago, Still purrs like a kitten. It will start and run my 15K BTU AC easily even at higher elevations.

Given a choice I would get the Yami 2400 next time. But check them out in person first because the 2400 is much bigger and heavier than the Honda eU2000i.
My Honda has been a dog to start since brand new and I would not buy another.

I have the Yam. 2400ish. Needed to install a hard start capacitor before it would run my a/c. Nice gen, can still pick it up and move around. Now, I have only run the a/c once while camping (we don't camp much in the summer) but it's a great gen. Easy start and very quiet, especially when not running at load. It's a backup to our large hurricane generator down here so wanted the larger unit. If you really won't be using a/c, or using very rarely, I think I would go with two 2K units, either Yamaha or Honda.

If weight is an issue, a Yamaha 2400 with a gallon of fuel weighs 80+ pounds. One Yamaha 2000 (or Honda 2000) with fuel weighs 50 pounds. Will you have to lift the thing, and how high? That is an issue for me, so I prefer to use a pair of 2000 generators.

I might be able to help you a little here. I have a Yamaha 2400is and a good friend of mine has a Honda 2000. We have both owned our respective units for about 8-10 years and they are used a fair amount as our main electrical source in our deer camp on private ground. We run them all night to power the furnace in cold weather. The Yamaha will run a 13500 AC but I did have trouble getting it to restart on a hot day when the AC compressor had pressure in it. The Honda will not run a 13500 AC in most instances...yes there are some exceptions.

As the previous posters have said, they are quiet and dependable, however, I have had more trouble with my Yamaha. Just this year, a bolt came loose on the generator portion and ruined it. It cost me about $400 for repair. Also, the Yamaha engine will start surging (hunting) from time to time and is usually correctable by adding a little seafoam to the gas. My friend's Honda has been bulletproof.

If I was going to buy again, it would be a Honda or two 2000's if for AC.

I like my Honda and am sure Yamaha is also a great product. I believe the Yamaha is a tad quieter and puts our a little more power. Tough call.

Have used both. The Yamaha's we have used are quieter than the Honda. Think Honda is lighter. We like the Yamaha's better.

2400 makes much more sense to me than a 2000. In previous threads folks say that the 2400 will run that aC and you can always add another capacitor to help it out.
