Houston to Destin

Heading to Destin for spring break with the grandkids. Would like a campground not too far from the road (10) that will take us a bit more than half way.

When I am on the road we like to bring up the GOOGLE MAPS on-line and put RV CAMPGROUND into the search line. This allows us to see what is where on the maps. Then can mouse click the search items to get all the info we need...

    Very handy for us...

  • OK, here are some possibilities:

Fairview/Riverside State Park or Fontainbleau State Park, which are just off I-12 in Louisiana, and you should certainly be on I-12 rather than on I-10 at this point.

Buccaneer State Park near Waveland, MS. just a bit further on down the road and a bit off I-10.

Any one of these should meet your needs.

EDIT: just noticed you are from Magnolia, TX. We spent last Saturday through Monday nights at the Magnolia Forest RV Park and enjoyed the stay. Magnolia is my wife's home and I first came there as a very young pastor 65 years ago in 1952.
  • Poche's is about 3/5 the way. Stayed there last year. Interesting little place.

We also stayed at Bucaneer SP in Waveland. It's not that far off I-10. Take Exit 2 US90. Make sure you take Lakeshore Rd to get to the campground (follow signs to the casino). There are several grade crossing that will bottom out most trailers. In fact, a TT got stuck on the tracks and was hit by a train a couple of years ago. Trouble was they were following the state's recommended route. Lakeshore has an absolutely level crossing.
  • Look into Frenchman's Wilderness Campground, Breaux Bridge, LA. Easy off/on I-10 @ Exit 121. It's East of Breaux. Contact them about flood damage...that area got bashed pretty bad last year.

  • In Mobile, Al. check out Meahar State park, on the east end of Battleship parkway, easy in/out and easy on/off I-10
  • Pioneer Acadian Village is also right off of I 10. Br Breaux Bridge. We enjoyed a couple of nights there.
