Do yourself a favor and stay inside the park. The extra drive in and out of YNP makes for long days. Mid-May would be my first choice. Late enough for most snow to be gone and school still in session so fewer tourists. We enjoyed camping at Madison. Fishing Bridge is centrally located with hookups, but not much more than a crowded parking lot. Good luck!
