How strict is Yosemite about trailer lengths?

We are shopping for a fifth wheel. We read on Yosemite's campsite reservations page that the maximum length for trailers is 35'. It also said that they will not actually measure, but that you must be able to fit into the spaces.

We have been trying to stay 35' and under but have found a few that we love that are 36'. Anyone have experience in this area? Has anyone been able to get by in Yosemite with trailers over 35'?
  • Yosemite doesn't care what the length of your 5ver is. If it won't fit you are out what you paid and they will not find another spot for you. Just be warned even tho some of the spots seem to be long enough, they are mighty hard to get into. It took me about 5 or 6 tries to get into our second spot last year. Essentially had to go in blind but with lots of help from other campers.

    Just buy what you want.
Then take the trailer out to a place you want to go and make it fit.

You won't get solid answers on here.

We have a 35 foot and had some minor issues backing into a 70 foot long pad recently.
It was totally owner operator error.
Some of us are very good at backing in...some of us never will be.

There's always a rock a tree or a vehicle in the way that creates a challenge.
    Just do it!
  • As I recall they show pad length and max (recommended) trailer length. A lot of it will depend on how your skills are with backing around trees and staying within the road width. I think there were just a handful of sites at ~35' too.
    YMMV
  • 36' will probably fit. If they said 36' on their web site, somebody would be asking if you can squeeze in a 37' RV. Give it a try, but be prepared to find other accommodations.
