Put in an approximate location to center the map. Zoom in or out as desired. You will see all publicly owned campgrounds with different icons for state, federal, and local. Click on the icon and the side list for details. Very very helpful. - IvylogExplorer IIIUScampgroungs.info is the best I've found as it uses a map with several features.

Here is an interactive map from the Forest Service. Click where you want to go, find a campground, click on it and an individual website comes up about that particular campground.
.
Now if I could find a map like this for BLM dispersed camping as well as BLM developed camping areas. - ulvikExplorer

Google is your friend.
X2 - Dutch_12078Explorer IIDon't limit yourself to just National Forest Service campgrounds. Your Senior Pass is also accepted at campgrounds operated by the National Park Service, Bureau of Land Management, Bureau of Reclamation, and U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. Even many of the concessionaire operated campgrounds at national parks and lands offer a significant discount with the Senior Pass.
- rexlionExplorerForestCamping.com is a good place to look for national forest CGs.
Another good resource is Ultimate Campgrounds which is also available as a phone app, I believe. Zoom into the map area of interest for detailed info.
Gordonthree, nice one! I hadn't seen that site yet, and it looks very useful. - GordonThreeExplorerTry this rather new tool:

Often times the government doesn't pay to advertise the true gems, the tiny little USFS campgrounds that have only a handful of sites, at the end of miles of rough 2-track road. Since they don't pay to advertise, Google and other sites that aggregate data won't show them. - DownTheAvenueExplorerhttps://www.fs.fed.us/ivm/index.html

Google is your friend. - toedtoesExplorer IIIHave you tried recreation.gov? You can search on the forest and it will list campgrounds, day areas, etc. For those campgrounds that don't take reservations, they won't have details, but you can go to usfs.gov and look up the forest and it often provides additional info.
