https://www.recreation.gov/ -- Glacier NP Problems???

Rrecreation.gov was schedule to open up reservations for Glacier NP today 1/28 @ 9:00 CT. Looks like part open, but can not choose a date?

And the phone lines are busy
  • GNP is a popular destination. It doesn't surprise me that the website and phone lines are slammed with volume. Hope you get a chance to go. It's one of our favorite national parks.

I don't see anywhere, WHY is it under review? it is a popular CG, why would they NOT open it. Or is there a planned upgrade construction? :h
  • No clue as to why.

COVID has hit NPS and other CG hard. We appear to have lost westernrvparkowner who ran a campground in the West Glacier/ Columbia Falls area. People argued which his descriptions of the economics of running a short season high use area campground with COVID restrictions and the shortened park seasons last year.

While we disagreed on many things, his expertise in that area exceeds anyone I've seen on this forum.

Maybe Glacier has such issues also. I've heard unofficially from some of my park volunteer friends that NPS parks were having trouble with getting enough volunteers, some concessionaires with getting enough summer season employees, because everyone decided to go elsewhere with all the we will open on this date, no we can't, maybe this date stuff.

The Yellowstone Fishing Bridge rebuild project did basically nothing last year due to COVID restrictions, and shortened season. Thus the park is closed now for what, the third straight year?

I’m pretty sure this is still old information. St. Mary’s is not available most likely because the park service is still trying to determine whether that side of the park will be open in 2021. In 2020 it was not accessible due to the Indian reservation not allowing access.

Fish Creek and Many Glacier sold out in minutes on the 28th when reservations opened (we were not one of the lucky ones).

I would think Many Glacier would be under the same restrictions as St Mary’s though, so we were reluctant to try to get reservations up there for fear that they would be cancelled.
