We love Hunting Island for its sub-tropical ambiance.
Biking along the beach at low tide and riding back through the "jungle" (where the Vietnam war scene from "Forrest Gump" was filmed) is always a highlight for us.
An interesting event is the "Gullah Festival" which we attended in November a few years back. It's a real insight into the history of the SC low country African-Americans with good food, entertainment and vendors from the US and Africa. It's between the park and Beaufort.
You'll notice the effect that erosion is having on the palmetto trees close to the ocean.
And of course, the Hunting Island Lighthouse is definitely worth a walk to the top.
We look forward to our next trip to this great state park!
