Update to our first trip: we really enjoyed it and we learned a few things. First, we did follow the posted truck route. We have a big rig and we don't want to risk low clearance in an area we had never visited. We were in the back loop in the " woods". Very tricky with the big trees right on the edge of the winding road! We made it to our very large site (#197) and while we were setting up in the afternoon a deer walked through the site - oh! Hello! We do not feed wild animals, but this sentiment is not held by all. The wildlife at this campground was very comfortable with humans. On a few occasions a Cardinal sat a foot away from my husband on the arm of a chair and kept looking at him. We are certain if we held out a hand of food he would have taken it.
My husband had to work two of our days. The only way to get wifi is right outside store. He was so bitten by sand gnats the first day ( he was using bug spray) he had to get a motel room second day.
Bugs were brutal - we had been warned.
We would like to come back to front section - east of store BUT not one of the coveted front row spots. When tide is in there is no beach and that is a little too close for me. Seawater lapping at your wheels is a little scary.
It's a gem for sure. My son went out during low tide and came back with four sand dollars and two whelk shells. He was so excited!
Love going to new places - enjoy your new adventures this summer 2014.
