Idaho campgrounds

Plan on taking our 5er out west again this next August (traveled Utah & Colorado this year). We want to travel thru Idaho and Montana, before finishing up with Yellowstone area. Would like suggestions of nice campgrounds in Idaho & Glacier N.P. area from fellow RVers. We will probably travel from SE Wyoming through northern Utah up to Twin Falls, Boise, western Idaho, Coeur D' Alene, Bonners Ferry, then into western area near Glacier N.P. We'll finish up in West Yellowstone, before heading home. Hope to spend 2-3 weeks in Idaho and finish up with 7-10 days in Yellowstone. Appreciate your advice.
  • If you are traveling on Highway 55, you could look at Lake Cascade State Park in Donnelly (south of McCall). The Poison Creek campground has full hookups and is right on the lake. Ponderosa State Park in McCall also has a campground with full hookups.

If you are headed through "the heart of Idaho", Redfish Lake or Stanley Lake campgrounds in Stanley are in one of the most spectacular areas of the country. The views of the Sawtooths are unsurpassed. This area is on Highway 75, just an hour or two (depending on how often you stop to take photos) from Sun Valley.
  • Jim & Mary's RV Park in Missoula is the best value in town. Very nice, less pricey than other RV parks in Missoula. Pleasant staff, nice laundry, landscaping, etc. Quiet, very little traffic noise.
  • I like Three Island Crossing SP, near Glenns Ferry, off I-84. A lot of Oregon Trail history there and a very pretty park on the Snake River. Massacre Rocks SP is also very nice, near American Falls. Both have W&E sites. If you are a senior, you can take advantage of Idaho State Parks' half-price discount for seniors on many parks (including those mentioned) from Mon-Thurs. Idaho SP Discounts
  • Will be keeping track of this thread. Patti is retiring around next August and we plan on travelling up through Oregon, Idaho, Montana and a small bit into Colorado before moving hopefully to Coeur D'Alene.....Be good to see the recommendations.
I know that Blackwell's Island in Coeur D'Alene is supposed to be nice. And we have stayed at Jellystone on the west side of Missoula. We have also stayed at the Twin Falls/Jerome KOA and as I remember it was also nice.
