I live in Burlington Vt and this is a must see area. You can stay at Lone Pine RV park in Colchester, VT. From there you have great access to Burlington, minutes away, Lake Champlain, minutes away, Stowe (about 30 minutes away). Other great areas to visit a short distance are the Island chain in Lake Champlain. One of the best bicycle locations you will find anywhere. This includes Grand Isle, North and South Hero.
I hike all spring, summer and fall and rarely have issues with black flies. I think they have all gone to New Hampshire.
