If you're going to Diamond Lake then by all means visit Crater Lake. I would then head out to 97 north up to Crescent, then take 61 to 46 and follow that to Bend Or. Lots of nice small to large lakes for over niters. Beautiful drive as well. I would then head out of Bend on 20 towards Sisters. Go past Sisters to the Metolious turn off and head towards Camp Sherman. There's 9 campgrounds along the Metolious. 2 RV parks as well. One of our fav places to go during the summer. You could then back track to Sisters and take 126 to Redmond and to Prineville. Then take 26 out to John Day then take 395 to Burns, then 205 to Frenchglen and Page Springs CG. The Steens mountains offer one of the most spectacular views of mountains in Oregon.
