James Island

Any recommendations on the campground at James Island S.C ?
Recommendations on route coming down 26?
  • Does anyone have a favorite site number at James Island that they recommend for week's stay?
  • I don't think there's any bad site. Preferably I wouldn't want one of the shared ones unless I was traveling with someone else, but it also wouldn't be a big deal to have one.

If you want to take the shuttle downtown make sure you get your reservations ahead of time unless it's really an off time of the year. Don't wait until the morning you want to go, the shuttles fill up early.
  • We were there for a long weekend last weekend. Roads our bikes throughout entire campground. Wife and I think site 29 is the best. It is a pull thru. Back side of camper has trees between you and neighbor, with good distance between you and them. Front side is also large with a good tree barrier and distance between you and the road. Site is huge length wise. We already booked it for June 2021.

Last weekend we were in 75. It flooded. Camper spot was fine, picnic table and fire ring were under water. Flow of water was going to neighbors site but was dammed up, so I cleared the leaves inhibiting the flow and have my neighbor some more water so I could drain faster. :-) Took all day, but MOST of it drained by dinner time. The rain that caused the flood was a good steady rain, but not tropical downpours. There was also poison ivy, so I would inspect any site for that.

Site 110 is also good, back in. There are a lot of "shared" sites so beware.

Anyway, it is an awesome park and a great location for exploring the area.
  • If you have a dog, they have a nice dog park with a beach just for dogs.
