Just spent 10 days in the city. Today, I'm boondocking. The nearest services are 17 miles away.
I'm pretty sure I've had enough of garbage trucks, diesel pushers, sirens, dogs, helicopters, constant traffic, chain saws, leaf blowers, lawnmowers, and my neighbors being close enough I can see what TV program they're watching.
Not that a city doesn't have its advantages, but, it's sure nice to be able to take a break from it. Now, all I hear is my fantastic fan, an occasional bird squawk, and the ringing in my own ears.
For anyone considering outfitting your RV with the capabilities to be 'off the grid', do not worry. That stuff just costs money. The freedom is priceless.
Nice post..
I'm not a hard core boondocker but I sure enjoy a few nights away from it all mixed in with my RV travel. Plenty of food, water, battery power, solar, good books-and I'm set. I've planted my rolling home in many great remote spots. For southern Californians the Mojave desert is great in the cool season. If the wind is calm the silence can be absolutely amazing.
And for a couple nights here and there, you don't need a heavily modified RV. Just a couple good batteries and a bit of 12 volt knowledge. Good way to get the feet wet...
