Kartchner Cavern Tours

They offer two different tours, a Big Room and a Rotunda/Throne. We only want to do one. Anyone taken both tours? Is one any better than the other?

Thanks and safe travels.

We stopped here for the tours but since they don't allow you to take pictures, we moved on. Was a waste of camping fees. They do have nice showers.

They don't allow you to take pictures???? You should see all of mine.
You can take a lot of excellent pictures without flash, though it would have helped some places.

    Bill,

The rules may have changed since your last visit. You can't even take in your cell phone for a picture. Here's the current rules which I've found they strictly enforce now:

Jim - not that I was doubting what you posted, but I had to call them, maybe their web site was wrong? Having been through the tours, I understand they're trying to not make the same mistakes other older caverns have made. Anyway, NO, the web site and you are correct - NO cameras or cell phones allowed in. I think it's gone a little overboard, but you play by the rules or you don't get in.

  • We did a tour last spring. Great lace. There is part of the cave does shut down for a period of time because, I believe it was bats that come into the cave, and they don't want them disturbed. The state park camp ground is very nice also.
  • I've done both tours a few times over the years. Greatly prefer the Rotunda/Throne room. Much more interesting formations to see.

We usually stay at Tombstone Territories RV park not far. Huge spots and quiet!

The no cameras, phones etc. isn't so much about not taking photos but rather the fact that so many people drop things all over the caverns. It is a living cave and after having so much to clean up they've said you can't bring much of anything in. That said they do not inspect anyone. If you have your phone in your pocket you'll be allowed in just fine. If you take it out inside they'll ask you to put it away.
