Kentucky Derby

Looking for the best place to camp as close to the action of the track as possible. 28ft travel trailer.
  • Two years ago we stayed at Add-More campground 'across the river' from Louisville, in Indiana. Very short drive to Churchill, or downtown Louisville. A bit cramped, but we didn't have any trouble with four slides and a 40 ft Class A with a tow. Also, several permanent/work campers. As mentioned above, check now, they may be "full up". Good Luck. We have friends in Louisville and they say that the infield at Churchill Downs becomes the "third largest city" in Kentucky on Derby Day...+/-86,000 people.
  • The closest place to Churchill Downs to "camp" is the KY Exposition Center at the fairgrounds. It is a couple of miles from Churchill and I believe there are buses that run back and forth. I have never stayed there, but they do have hookups for people attending shows that RV. From what I remember from working at the state fair, it is just hookups in a parking lot. You would need to call the Expo Center to see what they have. In Shepherdsville KY about 20 miles away is a KOA and another campground. Taylorsville Lake State Park is a very nice campground and is an easy 35 mile drive into Louiville. I would make plans now for the Derby is a very busy time.
