Kerr Lake State Recreation Area, North Carolina

Hello all,
Looking for a new camping and fishing area. We have a truck camper and a small fishing boat we haul around mainly in the South Carolina parks with lake fishing. Been looking at the Kerr Lake (Buggs Island) area. My question is it possiable to drop your boat in and leave it for the lenght of time you are camping? We just anchor it just off the shore at the campsite. If this is possiable does any one have any idea which would be a good area to try first till we get use to the area and look around.

Thanks
Gary & Pat

thats probably true based on my limited experience. Water lines can be different from time to time.

when I was buying I looked at property on Anna, Gaston, and Kerr. Anna was too busy, Kerr had drastically changing lake levels, and Gaston is held within 18 inches or so whenever possible. I chose Gaston.

In NC, I've seen people do just that. The boats are parked right by the campsite.

There are boat ramps at different locations throughout the park in NC.

The tricky part is not all of the sites are directly on the water. May take some research to find that perfect spot. Some sites have big hills to the water and some may be 50 feet from the water.

    I love Kerr lake.

  • Americamps on lake Gaston will work for Gaston. are campgrounds on Kerr but I haven't stayed at any of them. my problem with Kerr is that it is either 20 ft over filled or 20 ft. under filled, whereas Gaston doesn't vary that much.
Incidentally your NC fishing license will work for either lake.
