Assuming you have a normal vehicle, you would have to add about 20 25 feet to the rig length to be assured your tow vehicle and the RV would fit unhitched. Surely no one would notice your "55 foot" trailer is really only 30 feet long.

I too add extra length for my quick overnights, specifically because I do NOT want to unhitch. I don't really care about how nice the site is, I'm just pulling in to make dinner and sleep. When we're staying somewhere for a few days, the site length is less important than the location / quality.
