looking at it from a slightly different angle:
Suppose a campground has 60 sites and 30 of them are 60 ft pull throughs and 30 are 40 ft backins. If everyone says they have a 50 ft rig and need a long site, he only gets to rent half of his spaces on any given day because no one will "fit" in the short ones. Not really fair to expect that, in my mind. Had the OP thought to say something at the time he checked in and the site change occured, they might have agreed to give him a longer site.
From personal experience, we have run into situations where we arrive at a first come/first served state park and there are tents or popups in the long sites, leaving only shorter ones available, Since we ARE long, we have to go elsewhere, and the park loses the rental. I think we all need to be reasonable and considerate.
