Lake George...Lake Placid....Cooperstown

Later this summer plan to spend a week at each of these locations. Ledgeview CG @ Lake George....KOA @ Lake Placid.....Hartwick Highlands @ Cooperstown.

Any advice or comments concerning activities and things to do in the area?

Thanks for taking the time to read this post and all your help is much appreciated.
  • Thanks everyone for your ideas & suggestions. Much appreciated and will be helpful planning our time. Please keep the ideas coming.

    Thanks again.
  • We are also from SE PA and did Lake Placid last summer for a week. Stayed at North Poll hundred acre section based on recommendations here and it was nice. Huge shaded sites! Complete opposite at the other side of the park. I found all of the olympic attractions very interesting. We brough kayaks and did some hiking as well and did not intend to do as much olympic stuff, but we had a blast, did the bob sled ride (incredible) and enjoyed each part of the olympic experience.

Went to Lake George and spent a week 3 or 4 summers ago and stayed at Moose Hillock which was brand new at the time. Also huge sites and great spot. Awesome pool and close to town but far enough away to be quiet. Upstate NY really is a beautiful area.

Drive up White Face Memorial highway, Wildlife Sanctuary in Wilmington, NY, boat ride on Lake Placid, downtown Lake Placid shops, visit Olympic venues in Lake Placid, visit the Wild Center in Tupper Lake, NY.
  • Not that we have stayed there, but I would also agree on North Pole Resort 100 Acre CG. We scoped out the KOA a couple years back and were not impressed. Friends of ours stayed at the NP100acre and said it was very nice.

Also, while in the Cooperstown area, stop at Fly Creek Cider Mill in Fly Creek as well as Brooks BBQ in Oneonta for some great tasting BBQ chicken. Just ate there few weeks ago....13 bucks for sit down dinner (1/2 chicken, choice of spuds but I recommend the fries) and salad bar. If ya want, can get a dinner to go and eat outside next to parking lot.The to go meal is different than sit down.
  • While in Cooperstown, obviously the Baseball Hall of Fame is a must do for any baseball fan. Also, if you enjoy micro beers the Ommegang brewery located 12 minutes South of Cooperstown on Hgy. 33 is a fun place to take a tour and do a taste test or stay for a concert if one is scheduled while you're in the area. Ommegang
  • Not trying to hijack this thread but going to keep a eye on the suggestions as we plan to be at Hartwick Highlands for 4 nights starting 8-4. We will have both our kayaks and road bikes :C

Bill/Diana if you happen to be at Hartwick please stop by and say hello!
