Another great day trip (or a place to stay) is Valley of Fire State Park. about 75 miles northeast of Vegas. Beautiful red rock formations, some nice hikes, and two campgrounds, one primitive, the other with some water & electric sites. Some photos: Valley of Fire SP, NV
