Lassen Area Campground recommendation

I have searched the board (nor on RV Park reviews) and there isn't much on Lassen National Park (with regards to nice places to stay at). Does anyone have any recommendations for a 43 ft rig? Hookups are nice, not required, privacy and access to the National Park are more important to us.

I would LOVE to stay at Manzanita Lake Campground but I read where my rig is 3 ft too long.

Could I still get in? Anyone ever camp there in a rig my size?

  • Give Bridge and Cave campgrounds in the Lassen National Forest consideration. It's north of Lassen National Park in the Hat Creek Recreation Area. Here's were you will find more details http://www.forestcamping.com/dow/pacficsw/lass.htm
  • Check out the Link below:

It will give you some idea of the campsite length. Great Pictures
  • With a 43' rig, here's what I would suggest. Spend the night at one of the nice private parks in Redding. We use Premier. First thing next morning, drive a dinghy up to Lassen and see if you can find a site that will handle your rig, and when it will be available. One of the things I had to accept when we moved into a bigger rig, and ours is only 37', is that I could no longer just pull in and find a site like I could back in the '90's with a 26' Class C.
  • I just opened Google Maps to the area around Lassen Park and typed in "RV".

Found a few options I hadn't known about.

Tell us where your big coach fits!
  • Child's Meadows. I used to patrol S3 out of Red Bluff and the view from Child's Meadows is spectacular. Loved that beat just for the scenery.

Watch for loose cattle on SR 36 all the way from east of Red Bluff.
  • I have stayed a couple of times in Manzanita CG. If you can get one of the pull through (not all will work) it may fit. One 40' site I had was tough due to vegetation. The second 40' site I had was no problem at all. For a full hookup park I stay at KOA Shingletown.

Sorry I can't give you a definitive answer on Manzanita. The two sites I have used in the past are C39 and C41. C41 would be the best for you. Also, I had to back into both sites, as the curvature of the pull through (Vegetation by pavement) concerned me.
  • We stayed in a little rv park in Mineral just outside the south entrance to the park. Great setting but the park was not cared for - trash cans full, restrooms and showers very dirty. I don't know if your rig would fit, but you could give them a call. I think it was called Mineral Lodge and RV Park. We have stayed at Manzanita a few years back and drove through it this trip. I did not see any big rigs. Thank you for your service.
