I'm kind of neutral regarding KOAs. I have been to some great ones, and some real dumps. My question for some posters here is.
Some of you state, as a matter of fact, that you are loyal due to their very high standards and consistency. Is this based on solely on your personal experience? Have you ever been to one that you would find to be just fair, or even a dump? Is this a belief you hold since, it's just a logical conclusion, and therefore it must be true, based on the fact that it's a chain that must obviously have high standards? If you believe this, do you have a pretty wide base of experience, as in many stays at privately owned parks, state and federal facilities, boondocking, etc....
Second question. Somebody made the comment that they know that corporate has been exerting a great deal of pressure on some franchisees to clean up their act. Can anybody provide proof of this alleged turnaround in oversight? This is pretty much a polar opposite of my past experience with one really nasty franchise location that still has some current, and horrendous reviews, online. My understanding is that they will be dividing the chain into three levels of product, with high end destination resort locations, mid-grade locations with lots of amenities and more emphasis on site quality and more full service cabins, and a bottom level that may be just a way to keep most of the marginal operations in the umbrella and still paying their fees. Anybody able to expand on this?
Just wondering if things are really starting to change in a company with a troubled past? On a trip through the west last summer we stayed in great one, (Richland UT), one that was fair heading to poor, (Colorado Springs), and avoided a few that past experience, and current reviews indicate are best avoided.
I have always found it interesting how many claim that they are loyal based on the consistently superior experience, yet I continue to see pretty wide swings, and a real lack of a standards.
EDIT: Have to agree with seahawk in the previous post. Badlands-White River, South Dakota KOA is one of the great ones. It's almost hard to believe how much effort it takes to create a green, shady oasis in the badlands. Great place.
