I have had a septic line freeze. We have a pump up leach field. There is a check valve in the septic tank at the beginning of the line that goes up to the leach field. This prevents the pump from pump from pumping water up to only have it come back when the pump shuts off. That keeps water in the line all the time.
In NH it is very common for that line to freeze. Our line is buried but ot runs over granite ledge and under the driveway. The driveway is plowed, hence no snow cover which makes it very cold.
The solution is to either remove the check valve or drill a small hole in it.
Other then that have not had any issues.
