Again if we're talking about extreme cold, then the above advice could cause issues. I use to spend winters where the temps could get down to -40f for a week at a time. Sewers would freeze, foundations would heave or buckle inwards, roof rafters would break if they were moist. Heck, I even had a stick shift that I drove in neutral for 100 yards because the gear oil was so thick it could spin the gears. Now that's cold.
The very best thing to do is ask around your local area for advice and not get it from people who live in areas that have a completely different weather pattern then yours. Nice to get opinions, but the local ones will always be your best ones.
