Last weekend at the BLM area we fish at frequently, a crew came around and asked if we wanted a fire ring installed. We told them no, unless they have a way to keep people from using them as dumpsters. That got our group discussing a user fee.
At another site near us, a group had an atv, and they were doing cookies in the gravel, spraying the gravel into the ditches. This is a popular area, so the BLM just put a new road in that is under two years old. We decided amongst our group that an annual user fee would help support more infrastructure (we use it, we pay for it), plus those type of people would probably not show up and wreck the place.
It does get frustrating showing up and having to clean up a dispersed camping area so we can use it as we planned to. Our whole group always takes more garbage out than we came in with.
