I found out that all the keys have an abundance of rats. Well all but one. We are now at Key Largo. No rat problems here. Lots of feral cats here. I think the cats are a better concern.
We often see Raccoons at John Pennekamp State Park campground on Key Largo. People have fed them (always a bad idea with wildlife), so they hang around and gather at the picnic tables when they see people setting the table.
That said, I'll take a raccoon over a rat any day of the week. I hate hearing this info about Long Key - never have seen any sort of rodent when we have camped there. Maybe the original poster is masterminding a genius campaign to discourage people from snapping up the campsites 11 months out?
