Looking for a great campground near Mt. Shasta (CA)

Hello everyone,

My family and I are going on West Coast trip with a destination of Sacramento to meet family. We are looking for a neat place to camp for a couple of nights near Mt. Shasta (off of Hwy 97) or near I-5). A place great for kids would be beneficial. Thanks for any suggestions!
  • Thanks everyone for your advice! I made a reservation at Lake Siskiyou!

  • At Siskiyou there are 2 rv loops and personally I like the one that is farther away from the lake. It has private sites like a real campground and not a rv park. The lower one is a large gravel area with sites around the outside but no real privacy between the sites. jmho.
  • Lake Sis is the first choice. The KOA in town is OK if you can't get into Lake Sis.
  • Yes to Lake Siskiyou, especially for the kids. The lake is very shallow near the beach, so little ones can play easily in the water. We stayed there when we bought our trailer in OR and brought it home; there were deer in the campground and they had kids movies at night too.
  • X3 on Lake Siskiyou. We've stayed there a couple of times. The ONLY problem we've had with the campground was once when we didn't get a reservation soon enough and had to go elsewhere.

  • X2 on Lake Siskiyou. Great place for kids. Also check out the nearby fish hatchery and museum.
