Need some recommendations. Last couple years we went to CO to get away from Tx heat in Aug/Sept. One year was Glenwood Canyon and the other was Riverside on the Animas River (one week after it was orange). Both campsites were within inches of the river. Looking for a new spot to try. Any recommendations that would be comparable? Would like to try a different area of the state. Appreciate any help.
If you are looking to exit the Heat then you need elevation - really Cool might be Leadville at 10,000 feet, from there you could move down towards Buena Vista, warmer but still nice. Buena Vista gives you the Collegiates for hikes and trail could explore Crystal Springs and Crested Butte, along with the Arkansas River - Turquoise Lake - Twin Lakes Independence Pass and just a beautiful world of adventures.
If all else fails just sit tight in leadville and stay cool and enjoy Dinner at Quincy's.
Give us a little more info and we'll see what we can find.

Good recommendations above and a good question. What do you like to see/do? What sort of rig (could be helpful in making recommendations for places to get into)? FHU/partial HU/Boondocking? How long do you want to stay? And do you want to stay in one place, or try out a few different places?
