If you do the Blue Ridge Parkway, a short hop over to West Virginia & Babcock State Park and the Glade Creek Grist Mill is worth a stop:

Great shot of the Mill - It has so much depth it almost looks painted.
When you walk out your back Door it probably looks pretty good, Upstate can be as good as anyplace I've ever been. My all time favorite though, is Independence Pass, in Colorado - late September, those Golden Aspen are hard to Beat.
