Definitely go when the musical TEXAS is playing. Very good performance. But go as early as you can.
We were there 3 yrs ago about June 15. Unusually hot that year. Truck was showing as high as 108. That is hotter than normal, but it will likely still be pretty warm. But sitting in the amphitheater when the sun dropped below the rim of the canyon it was as if someone flipped on an air conditioner. Temps dropped to very comfortable level very fast due to the dry air.
We stayed in the Sagebrush camp area, the first you come to after dropping into the canyon and very near the amphitheater. You can walk over if you like. 50 amp FHU but no shaded sites.
Next is the Hackberry camp area. Some shaded sites but only 30 amps FHU there.
And at the very end of the park is the Mesquite camp area. 50 amp FHU. Probably the most scenic of the camping areas. Actually the whole canyon is scenic, but this probably the most scenic of the three.
All have covered tables. But was so hot we never used it.
