Nothing involved in depositing a check can give a scammer the ability to withdraw money from your account.
Unfortunately not true.
I sent a check to Sirius/XM because I didn't want them to have my CC number for "automatic" renewal.
.
An time I am dealing with somebody who I do not trust, (and yes I agree that that includes Sirius/XM.) I go online and create a temporary credit card on my normal CC account. This creates a throw away card number, with a dollar limit and and short term expiration date, specifically for these kinds of transactions.
It's kind of funny to hear from Sirius at the end of my contract. "well sir, your card was denied" me: "yes it was, you are not authorized to do an automatic renew, yet you tried anyway, and failed". Them: "well sir, we can update your account today, and you won't lose service". Me: " that's great, as I recall it came out to about seven bucks a month, right"
Then it gets entertaining, since they were attempting to double or triple that amount with the auto renew.
