Lundy Lake Public Campground

Has anyone camped at Lundy Lake/Creek Public campground near Lee Vining CA?

We have a 30 foot TT and were interested in this place, but could not find much information whether this place would b viable for our size vehicle

Thanks
  • We actually stayed in Mono Vista last year when passing through the area. Nice place for an RV Park, although the requirement to take your pet with you when away from the RV we found a bit over the top.

I will talk over the Resort idea with my wife, however our timing and work schedule requires us to arrive on Friday.

  • Mill Creek can be hit or miss on availability, at times many open sites and times when it is full. More towards the middle of the week is ideal. Lundy Canyon tends to fill up on the weekends and empties out on the weekdays. If you PM me with an Email address I will send you some pictures of the area. I don’t have any of Mill Creek as we have always stayed in the resort, but many of Lundy Canyon.

If you can’t find a spot at Mill Creek there is a nice RV park located in Lee Vining called Mono Vista. It’s a nice park, but right in town and no privacy between sites. We stayed there once until a spot opened in Lundy.

Let me know if I can help in anyway. We have taken friends to Lundy and they all have falling in love with the area, I’ll bet you will also.

PS. If you are into fishing this is one of the best places in California for trout. Minutes from your door.
  • THANKS for the in depth reply!!

Mill Creek, was the campground me & my wife were interested in based on comments from a Ranger (when camping at Honeymoon flat) & a campground guide.
What we could not determine is whether our rig could fit in.

We are planning to head south next summer, but did not want to get stuck in an area not able to accommodate us.

I am happy to read how much you like this area, so this seems like a place to go.

Since no reservations are allowed, do you think arrival around 2 pm on a Friday should be able to provide a spot?

    Thanks again;

  • My family has been going to Lundy Lake since 1961, we are on our fourth generation of family camping at Lundy. We go every year for two weeks usually in July. We believe Lundy is one of the best kept secrets in California. I have searched endless hours looking for information about Lundy on the internet and there is very little to see. With that being said let me try and answer your question.
    Lundy has three camping area's

Mill Creek - This is a county park located in the canyon on the way up to the Lake. No hookups/pit toilets/there is water spigots for water. There are numerous sites that will accomodate your rig. I see large rigs in there every year. Resonable rates.

Lundy Resort has two separate camping area's.
They have a small trailer park with full hookups. Limited to 20 amp total. About 15 sites that can be reserved. These sites are located right next to each other, bareley room for awnings. Tough to manuever if somewhat full.

Lastly they have a campground for tents and smaller rigs. About 20 sites total. No hookups/limited water. Very rustic campsites. There maybe 2-3 sites that you could get your rig into. I pull a 23' and can only get into 5 total sites in the campground. No reservations.

The trailer park and the campground have access to showers/bathrooms to use. There is a small general store for basic goods. We love Lundy because it is small and very lightly used. We are often one of the only rigs in the campgrounds during the week. Due to the tough camping conditions I believe that most people are looking for a more comfortable experience. Rustic cabins and boat rentals are also available.

Sorry to be long winded, but this is my favorite place on earth.

PS. Lots of Bears. We saw 14 bears in two weeks. Never been a problem, but they are around.
