Maggie Valley N.C.

Thinking about taking a trip to Maggie Valley. What cg would you recommend? We like to keep busy site seeing, museums, etc. What all is there to do there. We know about the 'Wheels" museum and the Smokey Mountains. could you tell us about other things to do in the area. thanks
  • We really like Maggie Valley because it's close to most everything but not "busy" and we always stay at Stone Bridge RV Park on Soco Road. It's a nice park with a pretty stream along the back side--a good BBQ place is within walking distance and just across the hwy is a place where they carve bears, etc. from wood using chain saws (interesting to see)
Here's a few things I would recommend to see/do in the area:

    1. Waterfalls--Soco Falls on Hwy 19 between Maggie Valley & Cherokee; Mingo Falls on Big Cove Rd about 5 miles out of Cherokee; and in Transylvania County, NC, there are lots of waterfalls of all sizes.

    2. Someone mentioned Waynesville and the Mast General Store. I would also like to mention that within a block or so is a great pizza place--Nick & Nates.

    3. From Waynesville heading toward those waterfalls, you will cross over Cold Mountain (of the book and movie)

    4. As others mentioned, you can get on the Blue Ridge Parkway just west of town.
  • Check out the Mast Brothers General Store in Waynesville. This is one of those stores that carries all the things we seen as children. It is two floors and definitely worthwhile to visit. One thing we always get amazed at is their candy section, remember those old wax candies with the juice inside, the sugar daddy suckers and what seems a never ending display of goods. All the eateries along Soho Rd (main route in Maggie) are super, tried them all, would go to any and be more than satisfied. Enjoy and safe travels.
  • There is a beautiful section of the Blue Ridge Parkway just west of Maggie Valley. Drive it to 441, then down into Cherokee. You can easily spend a day in Cherokee. Drive back to Maggie on US 19.
  • Well there is a Bluegrass Opry House right in town. Other than that. Drive over the mountain to Cherokee.
