Mail forward

How many days in advance do you forward your mail before you actually leave. "Boss" said 10 days. I question that and think thats too soon. Need referee. :E
  • Agree with Padlin. We've tried different dates and USPS never gets it right. The return date has always been a bigger problem with USPS. We returned home 11/3 and still haven't gotten mail even though we set the date for 11/3. No one at USPS seems to know where our mail is. Good luck to you. Thinking of using a private service next trip.
  • Didn't make much difference for us. USPS started the forwarding about a week late. Was supposed to be stopped a week ago, hasn't happened yet. I did a regular temporary change online a couple weeks before we left.
  • I always set it to 2 days before I leave, so I can check and make sure nothing is being delivered. Then it usually takes at least 7 week days before mail starts showing up at the other end.

One thing I've never figured out is when the P.O. stops forwarding in relation to when I told them to stop. It's almost like they back up their actual stop date so that nothing arrives after I've headed back home. Maybe that's giving them more credit than I should...
  • If you are completing a "Temporary Change of Address" 7-10 days. If you are using the "Premium Forwarding Service" 2-3 days.
