Will be going to Maine the last of August and returning around September 20. We will be starting from Roanoke, Va.Will enter Maine at Kittery. We want yo see the coast and as much of the leaves as possible. Will probably go to Acadia national park as well. I have a JAYCO fifth wheel with 4 slides.Can anyone recommend a campground that is suitable for this size rig. Prefer full hookups.Any help is greatly appreciated. Never been to Maine.

Lots to choose from along the coast, for the southern section I would recommend "shore Hills" in the Booth Bay area. Then move up to the Bar Harbor area and Arcadia. Don't overlook Eastport and Campobello Island if you have the time.

You will be too early for any leaf peeping. Even the extreme north doesn't usually start turning until the end of September. There are multiple choices for Acadia but our favorite is the Bar Harbor KOA Oceanside. Very pricey but you can't beat the sunsets. You can rent kayaks there, they do lobster dinners right on-site and the pie lady drives through on a daily basis.

You'll very likely be too early to see much in the way of fall colors; they usually peak around the first or second week of October. Columbus Day is generally considered the peak leaf peeping time in Vermont, whether or not the trees always cooperate. Maine would likely be a very little bit earlier than Vermont on average. You will, of course, see plenty of leaves in their everyday green garb.Reservations (made as soon as possible) are very strongly urged for Labor Day weekend.

Not coastal but a very nice campground Poland Springs Resort in Poland Springs. On a lake and just a nice, laid back place. You can tour a number of springs there, including the one that supplies the bottled water.

I can either take Rt2 to Rt9 to Bangor through to to St Stephen or head up Rt16 or 11 or I95 up towards Houlton. Make sense?

Either the 1st or 3rd week in September, and yes I still work. We have been around Bangor, Old Orchard, Bar Harbor...

Don't "probably" go to Acadia National Park, make it THE destination. It's a fantastic National Park with plenty to see and do. There are big rig friendly parks up there and should have lots of availability after Labor Day.

I heartily agree. If you do nothing else and you're headed towards Houlton anyway, bang a right, go to Smugglers Den in Southwest Harbor. You will NOT be disappointed!

They have no availability the 3rd week of September. What about Bass Harbor Campground or Seawall Campground in the same area? We like your suggestion for this area.
