For those Canadian Maritimers that head south in Dec/Jan, where do you over night the first couple nights? Do you stay in motels or hunker down in the RV somewhere?

Have you ever had thefts/break-ins from your RV while staying at a hotel?
I'm hesitant to stay in a hotel and leave our rig unattended out in a hotel parking lot overnight.
