Michigan - best time to avoid biting flies

That's when you're 'likely' to have them...but it's not a given. Just carry your good luck piece!
We have also found that they're greater in numbers in the Upper Peninsula rather than northern Michigan (below the Mackinac Bridge).
If you're around the lakeshore it's much better because of the breeze. Stay away for marshy areas and you'll be fine.
Folks warned us about them in Alaska, too, but we had absolutely no problem... it just all depends on many factors. Surely, it shouldn't keep you away. Good luck!
