Michigan Upper Penninsula

The UP is an absolute favorite place for us to camp. We have visited many attractions in the UP such as Tahquamenon Falls, Pictured Rocks, Lake Superior, Kitch-iti-kipi, etc... I am looking for more suggestions. Where have you been and what was your favorite part? What is the best campground in the UP? We would need the campground to accommodate a 30 foot travel trailer. Thank you!
  • Don't travel the UP but I would do a Google search for `michigan up tourism' or something like that and see what comes up.
  • I encountered none of the biting black flies during my visits to the Porkies. Lucky. They hit an area for a few days, then they're gone. I recall one year, first weekend of August, they were out in force around Deer Park. We drove west to Grand Marais and found no flies there, so that's where we camped. We had a tent at the time, and it dropped to 40 degrees that night.... brrr! That's Lake Superior for ya.

  • Fayette SP on the garden peninsula(pit toilets, no showers but a neat/interesting restored Iron Mining/smelting town along Lake Michigan, well worth the visit, very quiet). Bewabic SP at Crystal Falls, Copper Harbor SP. Brimley SP (only go mid week and not on or near holidays as the park fills with Canadians)no disrespect, just fact! Hog Island State Forest campground (just pit toilets and hand water pumps but a neat location along Lake Michigan).
