Moab , Utah

Planning a fall trip (late September ) there. Any suggestions for RV parks? I'm pulling a 20' Outback Hideout. Planning on some easy biking and hiking. Thanks
  • I would also highly recommend Dead Horse Point State Park. The area is truly awesome and would be ideal for bike riding. It's close enough to do things in Moab.

I'd also recommend staying in Arches National Park if you can do without hookups. You'll be right there for tremendous hiking. Regardless, sign up in advance for the Fiery Furnace ranger-led hike. You'll never do anything like it again. It's very popular so reservations are a must. Don't wait until you get there.

Early September can still be hot for hiking and biking. Later through October would be best.
  • How hard is it to find a good campsite in the Moab area early fall. We are also planning a trip, and dry would be fine.
  • Stayed at Horsethief for a few days, nice but try and stay away from the outhouses, clean enough but the smell is pretty bad if you are down wind. No water or hookups. First come first serve, get there late am for a decent site.

Portal in town worked out fine if you need hookups or just for a day to do laundry and get groceries. Usually full but you can probably get reservations.

Devils Garden in Arches was the best of the bunch, has water available but no hookups. Very hard to get into, might well be too late.
  • Stayed in the Moab KOA. It's a little south of town but had plenty of room and nice pull through sites.
  • One place you might consider, if you can get a site, is Dead Horse Point SP. It's a ways out of town, and very close to Canyonlands NP; not terribly far from Arches either. Fantastic place. The CG does have electric hookups, but no shade. A trailer your size should be able to fit at least several of the sites.

We did not have the same experience Lauren did at Spanish Trail, and we found it a decent place for us to stay. If you check with them, do ask for a site toward the back of the park, rather than the row near the road; it will make a difference in traffic noise at your site.
  • I've stayed at both Slick Rock Campground and Archview RV Resort.

Slick Rock has a lot more large trees with shade but the sites are somewhat tight and is all dirt. It was a little cheaper than Archview. IIRC, Slick Rock Campground is one of the older RV parks so that is why they have more tree coverage.

Archview is newer so the trees aren't as big but the sites are a bit wider and also all gravel/dirt. It is a nice place and people are friendly. There is some very easy MTBing direct out of the campground to the northeast.

Both have full hook-ups available and are fine places to stay.
  • If you ever get to the west side of Utah try South Forty in Marysvale on the 89. It's a very pro ATV/UTV park.
  • I do not recommend Spanish Trail. PM me if you want more details.
