Moab, UT

Any recommendations on a park to use as a base for a week in Moab? I have two 12-year-old boys so pool or water access, room to roam etc will be a plus.

My trailer is 27 ft and we may have a small dog (undecided yet)
  • Will agree with Lauren on the wifi, was just there last week an couldn't get logged in once. Also it doesn't have a pool. Other than that liked the shade trees, was clean an well kept.
  • Which RV park is going to condos?

Riverside. Their website apparently already says they have closed. That's a shame. It is convenient to town, right along the river, lots of big trees. We didn't drive into it, but the shade sure looked inviting!

If you can't find anything in Moab, the KOA in Green River is ok. Plenty of big sites, some with shade :) (do I sound obsessed?), and hookups, of course. It's not super convenient, but a fairly easy drive (less than an hour, if memory serves) to Arches NP.

We stayed at Portal RV last year. Very clean, well maintained park. They have 2 sides... a regular side and a resort side. The resort side has nicer lots and landscaping and has a pool and spa. The non-resort side has a swimming pond. Pets are welcome on both sides. It is located on Hwy 191,maybe a mile or so north of the business section of Moab.
  • I second Portal RV. My kids enjoyed canoeing in the ponds and chasing fish.
  • Lauren, you accuse a business of lying and you have no idea if they are, or not. There are a multitude of reasons that the campground and the surrounding area, or the entire town, could be having internet issues, and the McDonalds, several miles away, is working just fine. Unless you got the information straight from the local network provider, how the heck do you know if you were lied to, or not?
You have been bashing Spanish Trails for a long time, here on the forum. It might be time to get over it. As many have stated, and you can't seem to process, if you have a NEED for internet access, you have a responsibility to provide it for yourself. There isn't a campground owner in north america that will tell you that you have anything close to reasonable expectations on this issue. Due to the exponential growth in data consumption, even brand new local networks at campgrounds are obsolete, and overloaded, within a few years. Now add a few clowns attempting to stream movies, and it's game over. It always has been, and will continue to be a problem in the near future.

As I stated in another one of your rants attempting to damage the place, like most reasonable people, the DW and I spent a week there last summer, and found it to be real nice park with decent folks in the office. I wouldn't hesitate to return or recommend it. OTOH, I do have rational expectations on everything from the NEED to provide my own internet, to the fact that stuff happens, including things like water pipes breaking, and other small inconveniences.

Might be time to quit flogging this dead horse, particularly since you are attacking a decent, well run CG, not some poorly run dump, and as you may of noted, generating nothing but a long list of reply calling you out on the fact.
  • There were all kinds of places all around and even close to them that were working; like across the road. They also admitted at one point that they had been having a lot of problems and were hoping to get a fiber optic cable in to fix it. For a while they even told me it worked just fine and must be my computer. He then went to their public computer in the lobby to show me. Guess what? It did not work. He walked away.

Staff people confirmed the issues. Said they knew about them.

OK, he was not lying; just less than truthful, OK?
  • I agree it is time to let it go. No park is perfect in all respects.

I have a Verizon mifi that is out of contract and converted it over (with no charge) to a pay as you go plan. Works great for the 3-4 months a year we travel. I if tried to rely on RV park Wifi it would drive me batty. I also need to do banking on the road and would never not use my own secure connection for that.
