It is a convenient stop if traveling on I-20 and you won’t go to I-10.
Balmorhea is a better campground/ destination. However, Balmorhea can be impossible to get into at times.
Monahans is a neat overnight stop and priced right.
No reason to not stop if it fits your driving plans.
