Jayco-noslide,
You certainly are entitled to your opinions but as you could see so clearly, you are in the small minority of not only Michigan State Park CG users but of the other states also.
Personally, I hope Michigan NEVER gets water hookups at the sites as standard or sewer either. That's what the fresh water tanks and holding tanks on RV's and the dump stations are for and also the very nice modern bathhouse's are there for with all the hot water you can want. Holland SP has 2 CG units and of course, the beach unit is a total concrete road and site pads as it has to be such. I dare you to drive off the concrete on to the sand and see what happens! Won't be pretty! Grand Haven SP, Mears SP and many others right on the lakeshore have very similar CG arangements and pads as it's a MUST! These "parking lots" as you called them sure have no problem filling every site all summer long and much of the Fall. Holland's other CG unit has full hookups and if you had bothered to look at the info on the many DNR and reserving site info, you'd have known that before you had even reserved a site. Hint! There are pics of many of the actual sites in these State Parks all over the Internet so I have NO idea why you say YOU didn't know!
You are SO misleading since the only $32 0r $33 sites in Michigan State Park CG's are full hookups and they have VERY level pads. Tahquamenon Falls CG's and Union Bay at the Porkies CG's are NOT close to $32. Max site fee at Union Bay CG is $25 and the max at Tahquamenon at any of the 3 CG's is $23 and that's for 50 amp which ofcourse a "Jayco-noslide" sure doesn't need as it only has 30 amp max service. Try $21!
Next time you post a gripe about any state parks anywhere, please post the real truth so you don't so easily impeach yourself and look so foolish! Perhaps, next time you want to stay in any CG/park anywhere, actually read the info about it so you aren't so unhappy afterwards. Geesh! No one forces you to ever stay in any state park anywhere! Since you don't like the Michigan State parks, please go to where you do like them and you won't be missed in the least!
Also, the SP CG's in the U.P. do not fillup until the end of June and stay busy until the fall color season is over as it takes time for the far north area to warm up and the desireable season is shifted about a month later in the calendar year. Tahquamenon SP CG is usually filled until late in October as we go there every year in October and know and all CG sites are level. Being from Northern Illinois west of Chicago, you should know that this Spring was very exceptional in the Midwest with record rainfall and a very cold Spring and that's why the ground was "soggy" at the Porkies CG or even other CG's this Spring and into Summer. Nothing a Michigan State Park can or would do about it nor could any state park anywhere change it or it's results. Anyone who claims they have camped for 40 years certainly would know this! We learned in the very first year of our 50 years this year of RV camping!
