We just got back from camping at Van Buren State Park near South Haven, MI for 5 days. Apparently other Illinois folk don't have the same opinion at the OP because there were a lot of Illinois license plates throughout the campground as well as at the beautiful beach area.
Honestly, we don't expect water & sewer hook ups in state parks, including those in other states. As I stated in the other post by our friend from Illinois, Florida has water at their campsites and some sites with sewer too. That thrilled us and we were happy for those amenities, but it doesn't freeze in Florida like it does in Michigan and I'm sure the cost of putting that kind of infrastructure in all those state parks would be very expensive. But then again, I'm sure private campground owners wouldn't be too happy if the state offered private CG amenities at state parks for around $25/night. They couldn't compete with the state. I know that Michigan's DNR constantly has to deal with tight budgets. I'm just happy they have done a great job maintaining the parks we have.
