Mt Rushmore CG's
Can anyone advise me of some nice campgrounds close to Mt Rushmore and best time of year for visit. Not looking for a resort just peace and comfort.

- Horse Thief for sure. About 2 miles away. Government run. Seniors $11. No hookups or dump station but free dump station in Keystone.
- We stayed at Beaver Lake Campground two years ago. Owned and operated by an RV.net member. We were treated like family. We will stay there again when we get back that way. Were there 5-6 days and still didn't cover everything we wanted to see. Good luck, John
- See them all here as for time of year we like late June before the heavy crowds building up to Sturgis.

There are a couple of tunnels on highway 16, pointed straight at the monument. Very interesting place to stop.
Also after leaving the monument, turn to the right, and go about 1/4 mile to a tiny parking area, you can get a side shot of Washington.
I stayed at Custer State Park, and I think it was boondocking (My favorite, I have plenty of solar). There is a 33 mile wildlife drive there, where you take a country road and see what can be found.

- Beautiful country, just check where you are and where you are going. This picture was taken on the Needles Highway. We stayed at Custer's Gulch, close to everything.
- We stayed at Custer's Gulch between Custer and Black Hills state park. Very close to all sights and very quiet and clean. The management were the best to deal with. I'll stay there again when I get that way again.

Would definitly go there again.- When we went we stayed at the KOA in Rapid City. I know some people do not like KOAs but this one was real nice with a wonderful shower house and laundry room and the price was not too bad either. I want to say we went in June. It is also close to grocery stores, Wal-Mart, and other place we always seem to need to visit. Just my 2 cents.
